Although the well-known melody remains fairly simple throughout, the LH chords bring color and warmth to this setting. Keep the melody lyrical and very legato , allowing the new meter to elongate and draw-out the repetitive phrases. A slight rubato feel will help to keep the tempo from dragging too much. Gently build to the final crescendo in bars 57-60, mentally singing the words, "Jesus, Lord at Thy birth."
