Composed by J. Richard Dixon. 21st Century,Sacred,Easter. Score. 22 pages. Published by Estes Music Publishers (S0.50285).

This is the first section of the cantata, "Seven Last Words of Christ." It contains the Symphonia, Introit, and the First Word. It calls for SATB choir, solos and string orchestra. Depending on the size of the choir, one need only 10 string player; 2 first violins, 2 second violins, 2 violas, 2 cellos, and one bass. This section takes approximately 15 minutes to perform with the readings. It is extremely dissonant with very tight harmonies. Piano is to used only for rehearsal purposes. Such harmonies become even more strident and intrusive when played on a piano. It is a highly charged emotional work and has received wonderful reviews in spite of the harmonic complexities.
