Johann Jakob Froberger was baptized on May 19th, 1616 in Stuttgart, Germany; he died on the 6th or 7th of May, 1667 in Wurttemberg, Germany. He was a virtuoso of the keyboard and organ; among the most famous composers of his era, influencing nearly every major comopser in Europe by developing the keyboard Suite, and contributing immensely to the exchange of musical traditions through his extensive travels (which ranged to Vienna, Rome, Florence, Mantua, Dresden, Cologne, Zeeland, Brabant, Antwerp, Brussels, London, Paris, Heidelberg, Nuremberg, and Regensburg). He is also famous for his highly idiomatic and personal descriptive harpsichord pieces, which are among the earliest known examples of program music.
