  • May 30, 2011 Needs to Become Better Known

    I started teaching this volume because it was on a syllabus I was usng. The pieces are beautiful, utilizing the best of the romantic style. You won't find them in any other collection. Schumann dedicated pieces to Neils Gade, which is how many of us first hear of Gade...

    . How much better to actually play his excellent music. I was not keen at first on spending the money for this book, but having done so, I am happy to have this collection in my repertoire. Rich lyric style pieces that I simply have to play on a regular basis

    An excellent edition of these imaginative and colorful works which are not in the standard repertoire but should be better known. Gade, a Dane whose connection with Felix Mendelssohn is often cited, owes as much to Robert Schumann in these works which, nevertheless, have their own personality. Essential for anyone...

    interested in the period or in Nordic repertoire. Their succesful performance requires a high level of musicianship and imagination without requiring a virtuosic technique.
