    Difficulty Level:
  • March 03, 2015 She's GREAT-- but not the composer of these songs!

If you're seeking a hard-to-find score like Hugh Martin's "An Occasional Man," this collection pops up. However, you're getting it as a transcription of her performance, with a general version of her rhythms, LYRIC ERRORS (!), and a piano reduction of the arrangement she recorded, with...

no crediting of the arranger! And of course, the keys are not THE original keys of the songs, but the keys in which she sang them. It's an interesting collection from that standpoint, but bizarre from the perspective of musicians who want the piece as written, to do it their own way. I kept looking at it and wondering why Hugh Martin had written the rhythms the way he did, and finally realized that HE hadn't-- and an earnest transcription of a great singer's rhythms makes for a pretty complex score, which won't be terribly useful for most people. ALSO: the font throughout is too large. Bear in mind that there are lots more page turns than there would've been in the original sheet music.
