    Difficulty Level:
  • October 01, 2009 So Warm and Beautiful.

Frank Ticheli is one of my favorite composers and this work is one of his best. Mr. Ticheli is great at evoking images and emotions in his pieces. I am currently playing this piece in my college's wind ensemble. Our band director always has to wipe his eyes a...

bit after we play this. The most emotional parts are the horn and the first alto sax parts, which is the part I play. It's a difficult piece to describe in words, but it penetrates ones soul. The individual parts are not really that difficult, except for the horn passages and the flute and clarinet episodes. The most challenging aspect of it is beyond the parts and conveying the emotion. Dynamics, good tone quality, and control are essential. I aspire to be a band director, and I would love to do this work with my future students.
