Georg Phillipp Telemann was born on March 14th, 1681, in Magdeburg, Germany. He was widely travelled, absorbed a multiplicity of musical styles, and was prodigiously productive as a composer. He also held a series of important musical positions during his life, culimating in that of music director of the five largest churches in Hamburg, Germany, from 1720 until his death on June 25th, 1767.
