The first of two volumes of the most requested pieces for weddings, church services, or meditative settings, these compositions provide excellent intermediate literature for study in private lessons. Each of these classical masterpieces is excellent for development of tone and vibrato. All works are arranged for flute (or violin) with piano and organ accompaniment. A convenient pull-out part is included for the soloist. The included CD contains both organ and piano accompaniments for all pieces in the book. Introductions have been added where necessary to establish tempo and allow the soloist to enter with the recorded accompaniment at the proper time.

  • March 22, 2011 Very Useful collection

I recommend this collection because it has appropriate and very "do-able" selections wonderful for so many occasions, as has been mentioned, everything from church services to Christmas settings. I have and will be using several of the pieces for wedding repertoire. If there is something you want to change...

about any of these arrangements, it is generally easy to do, as other reviewers have mentioned, i.e. I just repeated middle part and left out the weird part before the ending on "Canon in D" arrangement to make it work more smoothly.

  • January 06, 2008 Every piece is a winner

Most books I buy have one or two pieces in them that I just don't like. Not this book, though! All the pieces are great, and I have performed every piece in this book in church. My only complaint is that the cover on the flute part is regular...

paper, and it has not held up well under all the use I have given it.

  • September 07, 2007 Excellent background tracks

I've been using this book extensively to perform flute solos. The tracks are presented with organ first and then piano for each song. I highly recommend it.

  • October 23, 2005 Nice settings for the most part

I purchased this for doing preludes and filler music for my church's various services. The arrangements of Volume I are mostly pretty good, though in the case of the Pachabel, it's raher unusual. I ended up using a more tradional arrangment of the Canon in D. Other than...

that, my accompianist and I liked the arrangements of Schubert's Ave Maria, and Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring and Air From Overture in D, in particular, as we were able to bring them to performance level in a very short rehearsal period. In the case where we decided to transpose the key, we both found it very straightforward and easy to do so.
