I was disappointed to find that this arrangement is not and does not follow the arrangement that Manhattan Transfer (MT) performs. I ended up having to transcribe the vocal harmonies from their recordings. The Dick Averre sheet music should not say by Manhattan Transfer as I've never heard this...

arrangement performed by them. I noticed that the two preview pages of the Kirby Shaw arrangement (Vocal Jazz Series is what I'm hearing on the MT recordings and is indeed the authentic version. The Kirby Shaw sheet music should say "As performed by Manhattan Transfer". I wished I had previewed both versions and made an informed decision rather than assume the Dick Averre version was the authentic MT one because it says "Recorded by the Manhattan Transfer".

This is just what I wanted for our quartet, which is just beginning to work on the close harmonies of Manhattan Transfer.

I like this arrangement and find the accompaniment interesting. A very good golden oldie!

  • May 30, 2011 Great arrangement

This is the classic Man. Transfer version with some added lyrics at the end. So you can use their cd to practice the rhythms. And this song is always a crowd-pleaser whenever sung well. Highly recommended to anyone starting a jazz vocal small group! Easy to learn for experienced...

singers. I have many years of experience singing all types of modern music - pop, big band, barbershop, and jazz.

  • October 08, 2009 Pretty good.

This piece is more of a fun, swing-type song. It is repetitive and has the majority of the same notes played throughout the song. I sang this 2 years ago in Jazz Choir and I thought it was acceptable and fun as well. I rated it 4 stars due...

to the repetition of notes, dynamics, and lyrics.
