And to think I never thought I'd be capable of playing like this. While this is an intermediate level instruction book, Rory and Homespun really lay it out so that a hack like myself can learn the "basics" of finger picked blues guitar. This has been an invaluable tool...

for me to advance my skills and technique. An excellent buy for $20.

At first the 'Country' before the blues made me think twice before buying, but the selection of songs I think is excellent (after learning them). I am an intermediate 'electric rock' player/hack and at first this was well above my 'playing ability', but after 'taking the time' (actually alot...

:) I was able to learn the material with the aid of the excellent CD (what I used most). I could play a lot of 'standard' blues but never could get that certain 'sound/feel' (hard to describe what I mean, but what I played always seemed lacking something), this set definitely taught me a lot and I picked up some 'style' and technique that is very useful now in all my playing. I would definitely recommend this book/cd if you are looking to learn blues (any 'style' as all the material will definitely benefit you), this is a good place to start, as I don't look at it as I spent $20 for 8 songs (you can find all the songs tabbed), I look at it as receiving excellent instruction

    Difficulty Level:
  • January 06, 2001 Another Solid Homespun Offering

Overall another fine piece of work from the people at Homespun Instructional, but there are some points you need to note before buying it. 1) Quite a few of the songs require alternative tunings -- so you'll need to rev up your tuner. Some of them are quite complex for...

people who are not grounded in this "art." I liked this aspect of the book. Others may find it frustrating. 2) If you are an intermediate player (and you'll need to be to use this book), you need to decide if eight songs are worth $20. Despite its strengths, it will never win the "Value for Money" Award.

    Difficulty Level:
  • August 05, 2000 Very Well Done

This book contains eight classic country blues selections, in a variety of tunings. Each selection has an extensive song breakdown and performance tips. The song breakdowns and tips are performed slowly on the CD along with the finished product, making learning easy. If you are a beginner, try Blues Solos...

for Acoustic Guitar by Johnny Norris. Then come back and get this one.
