This version of Phapsody In Blue is wonderful. I was away from the piano for 54 yrs, have been playing again for 9 months and never imagined I'd be able to play at this level again. The arrangement is good and I recommend it for any intermediate player.

I like it. I can play it but I don't know if I consider myself a late intermediate more like intermediate.

  • December 11, 2008 A little too simplified

As the rehearsal pianist for a community orchestra, I wanted a version that included the ENTIRE piece but with some simplification. This piece was a little too simplified, it was shortened, and the transitions were awkward with odd key changes. I ended up making my own version off the Gershwin...

original (e.g., chords instead of the many-fingered runs up and down the keyboard; not crossing hands where Gershwin did so). My playing sufficed to help the orchestra practice entrances and dynamics until the "real" soloist could be at rehearsals. I doubt I'll ever use the simplified piece I just bought.

  • July 01, 2008 Could be better

I wanted a version of Rhapsody in Blue that captures the essence of the entire piece, rather than just the "popular" themes, which most do. In that regard, this version accomplishes this. But in the end, the piece feels "piecemeal". Rather than flowing from one segment to the next, the...

transitions feel cut short, losing some of what makes the original so great. Also, some of the better parts of the original song which are primarily piano solo are simplified so much that they lose the whole feel of what I liked about it. I'll probably end up buying another, albeit more difficult, version that feels more complete at some point in the future. But this one is a good challenge for the intermediate player.
