Composed by Max Reger (1873-1916). German title: O Tod, wie bitter /Rademann. Motets, Mourning, death. CD. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.8315400).

Reger concerned himself with the composition of more extensive a cappella choral works, for which in the end, Bach's motets served as an important model for him. Above all, with the thick-textured part writing in their double fugues, the first two of Three Motets of op. 110, all which were dedicated to the Thomanerchor (Choir of St. Thomas), present a demanding challenge to choral singers. On the other hand, in the Acht Geistliche Gesange (eight sacred songs) op. 138, Reger shows his mastery of the straightforward setting-a masterly "new simplicity"-in which the composer spanned the bridge to his earlier choral works.
