This song is not for the faint of heart. Stunning and powerful, it requires strong musicianship.

  • June 27, 2010 Beautiful, Incredibly Moving

My high school honours choir sang this piece at the final concert of my senior year. We did an eight part SATB version. This song is absolutely beautiful and incredibly moving when sung well. I strongly recommend researching the history of the song, and of the war torn country it...

was written about before tackling this piece. I don't feel it can be justly sung without fully comprehending the pain these children went through. It isn't a particularly difficult piece to learn, but it is very difficult to correctly capture what this song was meant to convey. There shouldn't be a dry eye left in the audience at the end of this song.

  • June 29, 2008 A powerful song

The men in the choir at my school sang this piece at a concert last year, and a quartet of four boys also performed this at the Memorial Day assembly at my school. The men also performed this piece at a holiday breakfast. Each time I heard this song being...

performed, I had chills running down my spine. The context of this piece is so sad, and I am always close to tears (I have to keep my composure when standing on stage) when this piece is being performed.

  • August 10, 2007 Beautiful Tear-Jerker

My high school choir sang this in an SATB arr. And now my college's men's chorus will perform it, and it is a beautiful piece. Especially touching since so many soldiers are in iraq right now. This is a touching piece, which I reccommend any director to add...

    to their repertoire.
