The CD accompaniment is too electronic sounding for me and so I carefully choose which pieces I play for performance. In addition, many of the songs have a "Marchy" feel to them. Would prefer a more 'Hymn' -like sound to them. A little easy, but good for those who like...

to memorize their performance. I use these for last minute performances, as they are easy to site-read.

This is very good for easy to medium playing. The songs are alittle short but are good musically.

The CD accompaniment makes it fun to play the hymns, but the pieces are really too short for any kind of church performance. I find the "big band" accompaniment music to be very military in style, as though the original arrangements were written for trumpet, rather than flute.

  • March 31, 2007 Thanks for giving me more!

I was so excited to find a companion book to Hymns for the Master, which I love. This book gives me some different selections to choose from, depending on what passage my pastor-husband is preaching from. Thanks!

  • March 10, 2004 Full orchestral accompaniment

This is a lovely collection of relatively easy to sight read hymns, mostly short (under 3 minutes), however, there is great variety of style in the arrangements. Young musicians would find positive challenge in rehearsing with a full orchestra and more experienced musicians will be blessed and have fun.
