  • October 27, 2007 Shoddy book - Sour CD - Superb DVD

I was pleased with my beginning adult piano book. But there weren't enough songs, so I got this one to supplement it. I was disappointed. The authors seem to have forgotten what learning the piano feels like. PPT isn't truly sequentially arranged. Early on, there are simple-looking...

, yet torturous, "pat-head/rub-tummy" (RH/LH control) songs. Some of the later songs are much easier! But not all of them. Some learning steps are far too steep. The C major scale is one page before a song requiring simultaneous RH/LH scales. The blues scale is thinly disguised as a simple song a page before the "Boogie Blues". The book seems carelessly put together. Type and notation are arbitrarily small, leaving a lot of white space on the pages. Some fingerings are physically impossible, which shows that this book wasn't even properly proof-read. The CD is out of tune! The DVD is excellent. Robbie Gennet overcomes the limitations of the book and shines in sharing tips on piano technique.
