    Key West, FL
    Difficulty Level:
  • June 20, 2013 excellent urtext

Compared to the Wiener version, which doesn't have fingering suggestions, the Henle edition stands alone as the best urtext (I always prefer fingering suggestions). I bought three different urtexts, and this is the one I kept. I'm not a Henle devotee by any means, but in this case...

, their version is superior. P.S. The reviewer who gave it two stars is wrong about the dynamic markings - they're exactly where they should be. Two stars for this edition represents nothing more than ignorance shrouded in anger. And fingering suggestions are exactly that - "suggestions." If you don't like them, cross them out and insert your own like everyone else does.

    Richardson, TX
    Difficulty Level:
  • May 24, 2008 Not up to Henle standards

It used to be that I counted on Henle editions for excellent editors and fingering. However, this one has errors that were so blatant that I didn't notice them at first out of sheer disbelief. Take measure 5 of "Limoges, le marché". Their sf markings aren't even on...

the beat! The fingering is also regularly poor and often involves things like moving 5 over 1 when 4 would do perfectly. I will think twice before purchasing a Henle edition online that I haven't had an opportunity to inspect.
