Small Ensemble Clarinet,Flute,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.903751

Composed by Alan Edgar. 20th Century,Concert,Country. Score and parts. 8 pages. Alan Edgar Ted Moon #3053891. Published by Alan Edgar Ted Moon (A0.903751).

Picnic on Blue Grass was composed for a concert of summer music. Erik Satie's style in the Gymnopédies was suitably relaxing, and the addition of Arvo Pärt-like tintinnabulation would add interest and a very gentle decorative effect.  The clarinet, tired of playing a simple bass line, takes off at one point to play ragtime, to the disapproval of the rest of the group (and the embarassment of the violin, who cannot resist joining in).  The violin also has a very simple part, but she takes a cue from the Satie-style final phrygian modal cadence to give an unexpected bluegrass flourish.

The Instrumentation is:  2 flutes, violin and clarinet, but almost any treble instruments could replace the flutes, and an alto saxophone the clarinet: ask for parts.

The piece lasts about three minutes.
