  • April 18, 2015 Musicology vs. Performance

A great deal of thought obviously goes into preparing a Henle edition, so it is surprising that the page turns in Hob. XV:27 and 29 can't be managed in performance without the aid of a photocopy machine. The risky quick turns and ungainly turn-back would vanish from...

the violin part of No. 29 if it began on a left-hand page. It has taken me three years to get the piano part to lie flat, and not entirely successfully at that. It appears to be bound against the grain. I have Vol. III of the Haydn Piano Trios as well. It is free of these annoyances.
