Customer Rating:   8 Reviews Write a Review

Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor - Music Minus One composed by Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943). For solo piano. Music Minus One. Classical Period and Play Along. SMP Level 10 (Advanced). Sheet music and accompaniment CD. Solo part, standard notation and orchestra cues (does not include words to the songs). 63 pages. Published by Music Minus One (MO.MMOCD3007).

ISBN 159615005X. With solo part, standard notation and orchestra cues (does not include words to the songs). Classical Period and Play Along. 9x12 inches.

Equally renowned as composer and pianist, Rachmaninov dazzled the world with his piano concerto in C minor. It is immensely popular to this day. Brilliant and powerful with the beautiful lyric theme that became the popular song Full Moon and Empty Arms, it is here presented in a lovely recording, sans your part, the solo piano. Includes printed music on high-quality paper; a digital stereo CD featuring a complete performance of the concerto with orchestra and soloist, and a second performance minus you, the soloist; and a second compact disc containing a full-speed version of the complete version as well as a special -12% slow-tempo version of the accompaniment for practice purposes. The concerto is voluminously indexed for your practice and performance convenience. Conductor: Emil Kahn. Soloist: David Syme, piano. Ensemble: Stuttgart Symphony Orchestra.

    Difficulty Level:
  • May 24, 2011 Ok for studying but not for performance

I don't know if sheetmusicplus sent me the wrong edition (it says Accompaniment Edition) but it does have the score and the two CDs. In which case, it appears to be the old stocks. I should have ordered directly from the MMO website to get the "newer" stocks just...

I did in the past. Generally, I agree with the comments here about the strange tempi. For sure, I can't imagine using this cd for a semi-public performance without altering the tempi in certain places. The orchestral accompaniment is a little lethargic and uninspiring but it's fine for practicing purposes and personal enjoyment.

    Difficulty Level:
  • May 24, 2011 Ok for practicing but not performing

I agree with the comments here about the strange tempi choices. I can use this for studying and practicing but definitely not for performing even with a small audience. I would alter some of the accompaniment to make it usable.

The worst thing ever! The tempo is inappropriately set throughout the piece, and it is very hard for the pianist to follow.

  • October 13, 2008 Good book - Lousy CD's

I waited in anticipation for this package to arrive in the mail, only to be disappointed by the majority of its quality. I wish I got to see these review before I bought it. I won't be using the CD's at all. The idea of a practice CD...

at 20% speed is wonderful. I couldn't tell the difference! Did I accidentally get 2 of the same CD ?? In fact, I believe Artur Rubenstein plays it that slow - which is not slow at all. It would be great if the concept for practice is worked out - for example, you'd be better off with a Midi file that you could bring into Finale and slow down. Maybe it would also be a good idea of beginner, intermediate and advanced speed demos for how to tackle certain runs. I know there are different tips for playing the first 8 chords if you're hands are small.

    Difficulty Level:

I almost didn't buy this MMO CD because of a bad review. I found it to be a lot of fun. I had played this concerto when I was 14 with just another piano and to be able to play along with an orchestra was fabulous. I am an...

excellent pianist, playing for 60 years.
