Everything Sammy Nestico has written for band needs to be given serious consideration and this piece is no exception. The technical requirements of the soloist are not overdemanding and most community bands should be capable of performance. A little care and attention needs to be taken in getting a good...

balance from the accompanying band parts especially within the sections where the composer has taken great care in voicing the rich harmonies in the chords across the palette of sounds available in the wind band. The simplicity of Nestico's brilliant orchestration can only be enhanced by the freedom it lays down for the soloist in interpreting the beautiful flowing lines and melodic dexterity this piece invokes.

A great piece of music which any good altoist would love to play. Now find a band that will let you play it.

I wanted to play this tune back in 1970, my old High School days. Tony and I would always compete for first chair. He played better than me, but I was the "perfect student", and he won out that time and got to play the (my) solo. So thirty some...

years later, I can afford to buy the piece, give it to the community band where I play now, and have my old High School dream finally realized. Once you hear the piece (find it easily online with a web search), you'll know why I picked this tune over all the other pieces I can remember from 'back then'.
