Written in 2006 for the Smoky Mountain Brass Quintet, "Persistent Echoes" was inspired by the grandeur of Southern Appalachia. The past reverberates in these ancient mountains and this timelessness is evoked in this work composed to exploit several idiomatic characteristics of the brass quintet, especially homogenous colors and the ability to carefully control dynamics and articulation.
