    San Francisco, CA
    Difficulty Level:
  • August 27, 2008 Great transcriptions at a low price

Thanks to Mr Parkening for making such great music available to us poor folk. I bought this mainly for Rick Foster's Jesu, which is almost perfect; it also contains Foster's Sheep and Chris's own terrific Sleepers and Clavier Preludes 1 and 6. Be warned, the first Prelude...

has been transposed from the original D to C; not sure if anything was lost in the process, but it's actually quite easy to learn off the recording. Also, I did not experience the page turn problem; the book actually seems quite thoughtfully laid out to avoid page turns where possible. I'll be buying more of Chris' books.

    Thunder Bay, ON
    Difficulty Level:
  • February 10, 2007 Good Music, poor layout

I became interested in this book because I have Parkeing's recording, of the same title. The music is great and fingerings are easy to follow but there are too many unneccesary page turns. If pieces 2 pages long required no page turning I would have given it 5 stars...

. Right now almost every peice requires photocopying at least one page to avoid a page turn. Very annoying.

    Pittsburgh, Pa
    Difficulty Level:
  • June 10, 2006 here it is...

A life time of work learning to play these properly no doubt but completely worth the effort. What other composer makes the struggle so worth while? Harvey's comment about Prelude #1 is right on the money! What a spiritual oasis (if you will... and you will!!) that tune is...

    . Thanks JS.

The transcription for Prelude #1 in C Maj from the Well-Tempered Clavier alone is worth the price. As it the transcription for Jesus Joy of Man's Desiring. These are difficult but stunning.
