Composed by César Franck (1822-1890). Arranged by James Pybus. Christmas,Easter,Romantic Period,Sacred. 10 pages. James Pybus #35407. Published by James Pybus (A0.764650).

César Franck (10 December 1822 – 8 November 1890) was a composer, pianist, organist, and music teacher who worked in Paris during his adult life. He was born at Liège, in what is now Belgium (though at the time of his birth it was under the Netherlands' control). Panis angelicus is the penultimate strophe of the hymn Sacris solemniis written by Saint Thomas Aquinas for the Feast of Corpus Christi as part of a complete liturgy of the Feast including prayers for the Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours. The strophe of Sacris solemniis that begins with the words "Panis angelicus" (bread of angels) has often been set to music separately from the rest of the hymn. Most famously, in 1872 César Franck set this strophe for voice (tenor), harp, cello, and organ, and incorporated it into his Messe à trois voix Opus 12. For this SATB Saxophone Quartet arrangement written in 2012 the original key of A major has been altered to Ab major as this is a more comfortable key for saxophonists in which to play.
