  • January 11, 2009 Finally a compilation for us dramatics!

This is a great compilation for the spinto/dramatic soprano. There's a few arias that don't fit in that respect though, but it doesn't contain many lyric arias, that is usually the case in a soprano aria compilation. I strongly recommend this anthology, for the studying soprano...

and for the working mature soprano. Some of these arias have to wait until later in a singers career, but even big mature soprano stars appreciate not having to haul tons of scores with them everywhere when preparing concert repertoire.

  • May 06, 2007 Expansive, yet very difficult

There is a huge variety of music and composers, yet many of the arias require a dramatic soprano voice of great maturity, power and control. I am currently studying opera, and was advised to purchase this collection, but I have only used a few pieces for smaller/soubrette voices (Deh...

Vieni, Non Tardar, for example) for performance, but I have found it as a great study guide, or listening companion. Overall, I would only recommend this title to advanced or professional singers.

  • August 18, 2005 At last..an anthology for spintos!

Finally a collection of spinto to dramatic arias rather than having to buy several books and sift out the lyric arias...of which there are many. Very useful for recitals and contests....since I don't have to have a trolly to haul all my music around...when just the...

    one volume will do!

  • August 25, 2002 Fabulous!

This book is an awesome book pick out contest pieces from. I am in the process of picking out a contest piece from this book, and am having an extremely hard time because there are so many great pieces. I HIGHLY recommend this book to any soprano. There is so...

    much literature to choose from.

  • April 14, 2002 Missed Intentions

There's something strange about this collection. The majority of songs in this album are for developed, mature spinto-dramatics. The majority of people this album would appeal to are young, 20+ college-age, lyric sopranos. Unfortunately, the lyric college student may only find a few arias that are suitable...

for them. Like "Ach, ich Fuhl" or "Mi Chiamano Mimi". But NO soprano should attempt "Mild und Leise" in performance unless they are full fledged dramatic or 50 (which ever comes first). The developed spinto-dramatic sopranos that many of these arias are written for probably no longer need piano accompaniments. (They may prefer orchestra by now.)
