The picture of Jesus Christ as the "Lamb of God" is one of the most compelling in all of scripture. Sweet, gentle and pure, lambs were offered as a sacrifice on the altar before God. And then, God offered his own lamb as a sacrifice for us. Over and over scripture references the Lamb, even when Jesus began His public ministry, the first words out of the mouth of John the Baptist were these: "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!"
