SATB choir and piano, with optional cello
Arranged by Joel Raney. Classics, Hymntune, Lent, Sacred. Octavo. 12 pages. Published by Hope Publishing Company (HP.C5557).

Item Number: HP.C5557

Scriptural Reference: 2 Corinthians 5:21, Ephesians 2:8-9, Isaiah 53:3-4, John 19:1-5, Luke 23:26-43, Mark 15:17,20, Matthew 27:27-31, Psalms 116:12, Romans 5:6, Romans 8:26.

The PASSION CHORALE is perhaps the best known 'timeless' hymn which is synonymous with Holy Week and the journey to the cross. This emotion-filled rendition by Joel Raney builds intensity through a dramatic piano accompaniment, impassioned choral writing and a lush optional cello part.

We played this as a string quartet plus harp. It was so moving, and lovely. It took my breath away.

This arrangement is beautiful. We are using it for a strings quartet, plus piano.

  • May 02, 2011 Loved it!

This anthem was wonderful for our Lenten music program. The voicing is excellent even for our small choir. Our entire congregation commented on how beautiful it was. The piano part is gorgeous, but it is tough, so give it to your pianist so he/she will have plenty of time...

to practice. The addition of the cello part really adds the beauty of this piece but it is still gorgeous without it. I highly recommend this piece!
