Concert Band - Grade 4
Composed by Robert W. Smith. Concert Band. Belwin Symphonic Band. Conductor Score & Parts. 276 pages. Duration 6:46. Published by Belwin Music (AP.BDM02036).

Item Number: AP.BDM02036

This is a musical depiction of the day of a lumberjack in the late 1800s during the great logging drives in Wisconsin. The work begins with "Daylight in the Swamp," a mysterious setting reminiscent of the early morning conditions. It then transitions to "Waking the Camp" and develops to "Felling the Trees," a very dynamic segment. "The Ice Breaks" and "On the River" draw the composition to a serious conclusion. A most creative work. This is Robert W. Smith at his very best. (6:46).

i'm in the wind ensemble band in my elmentary school. we played this song this year and it was our bands favourite song this year by far. even though our band was small in size and age everyone played it marvously. it's an amazing song even though the...

piece was challenging. long trills all though the song for the clarinets, a difficult and long solo for the soprano sax and double tuonging for the trumpets with extremely high notes. even though the piece ws tough at first, once you put it together, it really sounds amazing and blows the tops out of people.we had a really succesfully in our band this year. we won our 5th consecutive award in the KIwanas Festival and won our secound forst place award in the rocky mountain festival in banff alberta. all in all, this piece is one of the most amazin pieces i have ever played. beautifully written, thrilling and exillerating, this piece is the right one.

I'm a high school student in marching band. we are currently using the Northwoods: of Might& Mettle for our show this year. The song is great and works well for marching band, however, the counts are easy to get off-step.
