Good collection of carols but Needs a CD Articulations are confusing--why the long arcs--are those slurs or phrase marks? Not standard instrumental writing.

  • January 19, 2012 Delightful!

This book is fantastic for many reasons. One is that the accompaniment is not terribly difficult. The second is that the accompaniments are many times using some jazz chords which adds some spice to old tunes. My student particularly grew to love the "We 3 Kings" set to a "Take...

5" accompaniment. Before recital time, this became both our favorites! Thirdly, the flute part starts out with the simple tune we all know, so for a beginning student, you could stop there. But even for a professional flutist like me, I can enjoy the variations as the song continues into another verse. Love this book! Wish there were more books like this out there. I am an Independent Music Teacher, teaching all instruments, piano, vocal, guitar and organ. It's rare to come across a book that can appeal to the need for easier piano accompaniments (for the not-so-accomplished accompanists out there) for an interesting set of Christmas songs for flutists of varying levels.

  • November 14, 2011 Wish I hadn't bought this!

I'm really not pleased with the arrangements in this book. I bought this hoping it would work for many church jobs that I get around Christmas time. We (the various pianists I play with and myself) are simply not happy with these arrangements.I didn't find one arrangement...

in this book that I wanted to perform.

I liked, but I would like the CD also had a version with flute.

  • January 11, 2011 Beautiful Christmas songs

These are nice arrangements, and not real difficult, yet with some challenge. I like the piano backgrounds which have some interesting surprises, such as some minor chord twists and turns. I especially like that they selected some less played songs, like the Ballad of Jesus Christ (hauntingly beautiful), and The...

Cherry Tree Carol, an Appalachian song that I had never heard before. My only complaint is that a couple of these pieces are played on the CD at way too slow a performance tempo for my taste. A real pianist could liven up the tempo on March of the Kings and Oh How Joyfully and make them sound more like songs of rejoicing instead of funeral dirges. Ha!
