Setting in E minor. A new edition of the version for solo soprano by Bach, which can hold a place alongside the version for bass solo. Bach originally composed the cantata for the Feast of Purification for a solo bass in the key of C minor (CV 31.082/00). Since its scoring for only one solo voice made it easily adaptable for performances under different conditions, in the course of its compositional history it underwent many changes. The present version in E minor for solo soprano, which has been reconstructed, in part, by Ulrich Leisinger, enjoyed a great popularity among Bach's family circle, as can be seen by copies of movements 2 and 3 in Anna Magdalena's "zweites Notenbuchlein." Both movements-certainly sung by her-are included in the appendix of this edition.

Score available separately - see item CA.3108250.

    Difficulty Level:
  • April 10, 2012 would have liked a separate flute part

For a piano vocal score, this edition is easy to read and well laid out I appreciate the tougher card stock cover and the quality paper-stock for the musical pages. If you have no intention of having a flute play along, then it is a great purchase. I, however...

, needed a flute part and was disappointed that it did not come with one. I would have glady paid extra for the obligato part.

    Difficulty Level:
  • July 12, 2011 A "must sing" for soprano

For years I have heard this Bach Cantata 82 sung by a baritone. At last I have discovered an edition written in a different key for soprano. (Sometimes referred to as BWV 82a.) To my ears it is superior when sung by a "floating" high clear voice rather than the...

masculine deeper one. My preferred version on cd is sung by Karina Gauvin, fortuitously combined with Bach's Psalm #51, (after Pergolesi's Stabat Mater) for mezzo and soprano.
