I think the first question someone setting out to learn to play a musical instrument should be asked by his or her teacher is: "What is you favorite song?" Then the teacher should get or make an arrangement of that song simple enough for the student to be able to...

play it in three months or less. MOVIE FAVORITES - CELLO is a great source book for sheet music that would fill the fill for many students. A studen who dreams of playing the theme from his favorite movie will love it.

Last year for my birthday, I begged my parents to buy me new sheet music. Unfortunately, they ended up buying me this book. I read through the whole thing in less than half an hour and was immensly unsatisfied. Most of the songs were originally solos for completely different instruments...

and just sounded weird on the cello. And only one or two were actually pieces one should look back over at. Don't buy it.

  • June 01, 2004 Just what I needed

As a new cello player, I wanted a challenging music book that would help me excel, but still be exciting in the 90 minutes each week I tried to practice. This book did the trick. Just yesterday I did an hour of practicing from it. One of most favorite parts...

about it is the variety of songs, although a couple of them I still haven't mastered. I'm still able to do my favorites, such as "Somewhere Out There" and "E.T." Another good point is you can play with a piano accompaniment book. My mom just so happens to be a piano teacher, so obviously we play together. If you've just learned how to play the cello, but you know how to play all strings with the 4 fingers, I would definitely advise you to get this book. As you progress and learn new tricks, you can play more songs. It is definitely not horrific.
