  • December 25, 2006 Ted Greene, a master player and teacher

I was so lucky to have studied with Ted. He provides lucid terse explanations with tons of examples. We should all be grateful that his teaching legacy lives on. Every guitarist must own his publications. I miss him dearly... Geo

  • February 23, 2006 Simply the Best Guitar Books Ever

I studied guitar with Ted Greene as a teenager when he was first writing Chord Chemistry. At the time I was also studying with George Van Eps and shared some of the lesson materials with Ted at a time when he was perfecting his chord melody and voicing ideas. Much...

of this work also came out of the Bach Chorales, a copy of which he carried around all the time. Although no longer a professional musician I continue to play. Ted's complete series of books on chords and solo playing are clearly the best ever written. These are not fake books or licks or flashy solo riffs. There may be more famous people around but no one has created a better series. All you get is just good, solid, musicianship for the guitar at an elevated level. Anyone buying these should at least be an intermediate player. And realize that these are the types of books that take years to master so they will serve you well for a long time and are well worth the money. Mark Bird

  • October 27, 2005 A worthy book for any guitarist.

This book is a good book for learning chord progressions from: It is best that you have at least an intermediate knowledge of Theory before you attempt it however: It contains most modern progressions and since Ted Greene was a progenitor of George Van Eps the book resembles harmonic mechanisms...

in some of the facets of the chord construction and the use of often esoteric chord structures--it is a fitting challenge for any guitarist to go through this book! I suggest that you get a guitar notation book that has the tab in it so that you can tab out the positions and notes because this book was written in a different era and it is kind of archaic so if you get this be willing to invest alot of time in it.
