Moanin'

This is a very good chart, but do not expect it to be anything like the recorded version. There are a few omissions and additions that change it from the recording. There is tons of solo space, ranging from each of the saxes to the trumpets and trombones, even BEFORE...

getting to the solo section where the organized chaos stops. As a bari player, it is a very good song, and even the other members of the band will love it, especially if the bari player can whail, or more appropraitely start "Moanin'"

Played this song on bari, and it was really fun. Don't bother with it if your bari can't wail though, also not good for bands that only feature a few soloists because they're the only ones who know how. Pretty much everyone solos at some point in...

this song because of the organized chaos going on. Let your featured soloists shine in the reasonably long solo section, and coming from a bari player, make sure you have the bari player solo, in the spirit of the original song.

  • July 19, 2005 Absolutely Amazing!!!!!!!!!!

I just bought this chart a little over a week. My friend and I have been pondering forever to get this song, but we were afraid that it only sounded awesome, and wasn't awesome to play. We were wrong. When reading/playing this chart, we constantly felt as if...

we were in the presence of a genius. The fact that Sy Johnson was able to put some of this stuff together and still make it work was absolutely awesome. Although, I must warn you, this song doesn't really have any hard rythmic patterns, but what's hard is what's not written.
