  • December 15, 2007 Great masterpiece!

Miserere by Gregorio Allegri is a wonderful choir masterpiece. It is based on Psalm 51 of the Bible, and it is one of the repentance Psalms. Psalm 51 tells about King David's thoughts after his adultery. The Psalm begins with words: "Have mercy upon me, O God," (Miserere mei...

, Deus). The Psalm is one of the most sincere and touching descriptions of a man crying in front of his God. King David's heart is crushed after realizing how deeply he has broken against God. On the other hand, King David knows that God is the only one who can help him, and in every moment and incident in his life King David wants to turn to his God. The melody in Allegri's work describes the crying heart and soul in a very beautiful way. This masterpiece is current at any time even though it was composed hundreds of years ago. This is a very demanding choir work, but it pays back in a wonderful way: it comforts the singers and the listeners! The latin words are also translated into English in this edition.
