I found "Solar" to be lacking, the arrangement here has a strange Mancini vibe that does not fit the piece well. I prefered the original arrangement of "Boplicity". That said, this collection is a must-have. Included are two "Milestones" (the 1948 standard recorded by Charlie Parker and Miles' signature...

theme from 1958 aka "Miles"), the complete "Kind Of Blue" album, themes recorded by Cannonball Adderley ("Somethin' Else") or Bill Evans ("Nardis") plus a few Miles standards more. The selection ends in the mid-60's ("Circles", "Eighty-One"). Nothing from the post-acoustic period. Let's hope for a second volume. Highly recommended!

As someone who believes that modern American classical music begins with Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, and Bill Evans, this volume is a nice educational supplement. Let us remember that Miles Davis was not a pianist. So these transcriptions are not overly complex or drawn out. But they are a stepping...

stone to playing Bill Evans interpretations of Davis. It's an attractive volume with good paper and clean printing.

I've learned nearly all the songs and love each one. My piano teacher recommended the book. I've enjoyed it so much I've sought more information and music of Miles Davis. I know he's not new, but he is new to me.

  • March 21, 2007 Great way to to play Miles Davis on your own

The scores a very straight forward and work for solo piano although some arrangements are clearly better than others. I wish I would have found this book years ago. They provide a good start for the pianist interested in the music of Miles Davis.
