  • August 09, 2007 Had me comping like a pro by page 5

40 years ago I first found this amazing book at Manny's, and there is still nothing like Mickey Baker "Complete Course" In Jazz Guitar. This "complete" course boasts 2, thin volumes with no room for non-essentials or hand-holding beginners. You gotta jump right in, but you'll...

soon know if you're ready or not for these ideas. Mickey works his magic up and down the neck, so if you aren't yet comfortable away from the first position, then most is still beyond your reach, but when you can read and know about major and minor modes and making diatonic extension chords (7+11?), and you no longer get dizzy working above the fifth fret, then you'll be amazed by how fast Mickey has you playing progressions that sound like, well, a real jazz player. Yes, you! Get 'em both, 'cause with the set under $20, it's a no-brainer, and when you dig what Mickey's been laying down, you'll soon be hollerin' for mo' Mickey!

Yup, as corny as it is, it's still a lot of very hip stuff - NOT for beginners, but beginners could use it with the help of a good teacher -and book TWO has got some MORE great stuff - this book is a classic recognized by many of the old...

  • May 04, 2007 Great Stuff *****

The reason I like this book is it elimnates the need to know a thousand cords. It shows you how to use about thirty courds to play any tune; it's great! the structure and layout is very good and gets you playing actual jazz sounds quickly. I had lost...

my original book and have for years been trying to find it again. This book really turned my playing around. The different ways to use the same chords is awesome and exciting. If you are struggling to get that authentic jazz sound this is the book. I'm glad to find it again! I lost tihs book about twenty years ago. This then lets you know how much I value it.

BOOK FOR EARLY INTERMEDIATE PLAYERS TO LEARN TO COMP, USE CHORD SUBS, ETC. RIGHT AWAY THEY THINK THEY ARE PLAYING "CHORD MELODIES". CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT IT, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A TEACHER.

  • September 03, 2006 The book to learn Jazz Guitar From

This book is has an excellent progressive way of getting the student playing the nescessary chords in a quick and concise way. It has a huge amount of useable content and really keeps you wanting to get to the next chapter. A number of students have gone on to become...

fantastic players partly because of this method. Highly recommended!!
