  • August 17, 2011 Classic Teaching Tool

Written in 1830, Vaccai's "Practical Method" is still a standard for teaching beginning through advanced voice students. Its beauty lies in the fact that each lesson teaches more than just how to sing intervals or bel canto technique, but how to hear them and recognize them visually -- the key...

to sight-singing. Not to mention phrasing, and theory. I was taught these over 50 years ago and love teaching them to my students today.

  • March 19, 2009 CD ideal for vocal practice

After a year of using Vaccai exercises in my voice lessons through the Schirmer's edition, I wanted a CD to make practice at home easier and more fun. With vocal recordings for both soprano and tenor as well as tracks with accompaniment only, the CD was exactly what I...

was looking for! A nice bonus was that the book is much easier to use than the less expensive Schirmer's, as the music and lyrics are in larger print, and the Italian is clearly printed. Definitely worth the price to purchase this edition with CD! For those unfamiliar with Vaccai exercises, they are like calisthenics for the voice, providing ear training for intervals and developing vocal flexiblity through increasing difficulty. Can be used Beginner through Advanced!

  • August 19, 2007 Great for Voice and Musicianship

This series of songs is a unique and powerful education by itself. Each of the first 8 songs focuses on an interval; i.e., first step by step scale song, then thirds, etc. The songs are catchy, easy to learn with the CDs, but also complex--for me they never...

get dull. This course is an old-fashioned complete one designed to take someone from amateur to professional and as such it is immensely satisfying and challenging. This is one of my most valued possesions. I had to order it again after years to get the CDs because my tapes died. This recent revisit to the course has led me to a newfound passion for opera.

  • March 11, 2006 Simple exercises to train your voice

This is an old test that is still used for classical voice training. The lessons are short arias that increase in complexity from a simple scale to a complicated melody. It has piano part.
