Don't underestimate this book if you're a beginner. At first, I thought the Primer was too 'easy', so i got Metal Lead Guitar Vol. 1, but that was too advanced fer me, so finally, after many months, i got the primer. This book isn't actually for complete...

beginners, but for players new to Lead Guitar, as Troy states himself. The whole thing is a breakdown of the first 2 chapters of Vol. 1, but it also teaches things that Vol. 1 doesn't teach. It is WAY more helpful than Vol. 1 if you don't know the basic articulations. [Bends, vibrato, hammer-ons, and pull-offs].

This is the absolute BEST book for anyone wanting to learn how to play Heavy Metal music! Like the first review I recommend using this with "Heavy Metal Lead Guitar Vol 1".I have been playing for years, but could never do "Tapping" or "Harmonics" and these two books taught...

me how to do both techniques in just one day...Now I"am playing the lead to "Panama" (Van Halen) note-for-note.Get this book (Or any of Troy's books) You will NOT be disappointed! I guarantee it!!!

  • June 17, 2003 Great "Primer" for Beginners

When I began using this book, I could hardly play a scale without making a mistake. While I am not at the proficiency I hope to one day be at, this book has been an Excellent Intro to the basics of playing metal lead. I recommend using this in conjunction...

with Metal Rhythm Guitar Vol. 1 by Troy Stetina. I have used both and have progressed to Metal Rhythm Guitar Vol. 2 and Metal Lead Guitar Vol. 1. These books teach the basics and fundamentals behind 80's and 90's style hard rock and metal.
