  • May 28, 2011 One of the moderate-sized Masters-of collection

This series of "Masters of ..." books includes a little history and some short biographies on the preliminary pages. One thing I particularly like, as a piano teacher, is the suggested teaching order--that saves me the time of rating the difficulty of each piece myself. This collection is more "classical...

" than the Anthology of American Piano Music and is a smaller, 15 piece/15 composer book, making it more affordable for the student but with good variety and exposure to a few American composers from the 1700s to the present. College students may have a need for collections of the same composer, but this type of collection is great for an introduction to many different composers, for sight-reading, for reference in the studio, and for keeping the retired performer from getting rusty.
