  • January 29, 2013 Classic Mark Hayes!

This is a nice collection of classical and traditional Christmas songs arranged for solo voice. The vocal lines are not supremely difficult, yet still independent of the accompaniment part, and appropriate for serious adolescent students straight through to seasoned professionals in need of quick solo material during the hectic Holiday...

Season. The vocal part requires a strong Mezzo Soprano range and is ideal for Sopranos (high note of A). The piano accompaniment is lovely (classic Hayes style), but challenging - you will need a very competent accompanist for these pieces. When such an accompanist can not be found, the CD is a great alternative. The accompaniment CD is also great for rehearsal preparation and would be specifically helpful for students working on their posture, stage presence, etc. Overall, this is a nice collection - but one expects nothing less from Mark Hayes!

  • December 06, 2012 This is a "high voice" book

Great music, but a few pieces go up to high "a". There's nothing "medium high" about this book. I would recommend buying the low voice edition if you're not a high soprano. The CD is accompaniment only. A separate listening CD with voice/ accompaniment is available. The piano...

parts are manageable. Don't let the reviews that say the accompaniment is too hard keep you from buying this book. Just be careful to select the correct voice range.

  • January 16, 2012 Great Arrangements

These are great arrangements to traditional Christmas songs. I found them refreshing and inspiring. They add energy and interest to what can become some tired old tunes. Every singer (all levels) would enjoy these arrangements. And the print is large and very readable! :) It is suitable for any level, but...

the singer must be able to follow the accompaniment.

  • November 25, 2011 Mark Hayes Vocal Solo Collection

I was excited to sing these songs, but I think it's not a Med/high voice. It is more like for High vocal.

  • September 28, 2010 LOVE IT!

I love these arrangements and use them every year with students and for myself. The piano parts are definitely challenging - and I am in no way a beginning/intermediate pianist - but the end result (even simplified) is well worth the effort. BEST arrangement of Coventry Carol ever. The voice part...

is fairly high, G and A often being the "big" notes, but if you are truly a soprano is a comfortable range. I'd call it intermediate for the voice and advanced for the piano.
