This series can be used as part of the Mainstreams Method or it can be used independently. The books do NOT coordinate page by page with the method, as is common with most of today's series. Rather, each component stands on its own. Topics are not presented in this...

book in the same order as they are in the Pianist books. This is fine pedagogically, but it may surprise teachers who are expecting the books to follow lesson by lesson. This is one of the most thorough theory books on the market. There are both written exercises and performing assignments. The series uses an intensive mutlikey approach after book 1. Book 1 uses a blend of guidepost/interval reading and the middle C approach. While I would have preferred a theory book that followed the same order as the method, it has not stopped me from using this book, both with the method and as a supplement to other books.
