Brentwood-Benson Music Publications, and the Instrumental Worship Series, presents MADE TO WORSHIP featuring 12 instrumental duets for piano and cello. These tasteful, worship-centric arrangements by Christopher Phillips, Music Director, Christ Church Nashville, are perfect for offertories, postludes, or as intimate, stand-alone performances. With a focus on flexibility, these inspiring arrangements also offer the solo instrumental part transposed to include the C instruments [Violin/Flute/etc.] and Bb instruments [Trumpet/Clarinet/etc.].

The printed folio comes with a bonus ÇD which can be used both as a reference recording or simply for your own listening pleasure and quiet times of reflection and worship. Further enhancing the value and usability of this featured publication is a CD Piano Accompaniment Track which enables the solo instrumentalist to perform these arrangements without the need of live piano accompaniment, and includes a detailed piano transcription and separately transposed parts for all C and Bb instruments.

I have reviewed this CD and find "My Savior, My God" very beautiful. I play doublebass and copied the original cello part and played it on bass originally. I have since rewritten the part keeping the cello part for cello and harmonizing with the bowed bass and added some pizz...

at particular parts of the song. So now my arrangement consists of piano, cello, and bass on My Savior, My God. I have to admit, it sounds pretty good. You can't beat the two voices of cello and bass together, but it takes a competent bassist to pull it off.

The cello and piano parts are printed one after another, so you'll have to rip out pages or just remove the binding to separate the piano from cello parts. Since the page turns aren't particularly good, you'll probably end up making photocopies anyway. The cello part is...

mostly first position and no double stops that I've come across so far. Some of the rhythms are challenging to read, but make sense once you know how they go. The pieces I've read through so far wouldn't be out of place in a contemporary service, but at least half would also be fine in the sort of traditional service I often play for (not too repetitive, good modulations, interesting piano texture). The arrangements are much more appealing than just reading from a hymn book. Cello part is early intermediate, but piano part is advanced (not quite sight-readable for a good player). If your pianist is playing Mark Hayes arrangements for church, they'll be fine with these accompaniments.

This Book is an amazing collection of Duets. I really enjoyed playing all of them with the CD. You can't really use the CD for performance, but it's a good tool for practice. This book does not have a Horn transposition, but it sounds good as well, if...

you know how to transpose. The piano part is a bit difficult, so you may need a good piano player. This is good find, haven't seen a much better quality for the money.
