  • February 26, 2009 Classic wind orchestra repertoire

This is the classic wind orchestra suite of folk songs beautifully orchestrated by Percy Grainger in their original form. Unfortunately, the vast number of original typographical errors are still not corrected in this publication (rehearsal bar numbers in the wrong place, missing slurs/ties, missing beats and wrong notes) which...

is a real shame as there is no excuse for poorly published music these days! Such a core repertoire piece should be republished in a corrected format but kept true to the original score, along with Percy's insightful notes. Still a great piece of music and well recommended to any competent wind orchestra/concert band.

  • April 01, 2007 Neato Piece!!!

First of all, I absolutly ADORE this piece! I am in 7th grade and play 1st trombone. This song has very high notes. We are simply playing the 1st, 2nd, and 6th. The trombones don't haven any thing written on the 1st mvt so our band director has us...

play the bassoon part. The 1st movement,"Lisbon", is kinda freaky sounding and is marked at a fast pace . The 2nd movement, "Horkstow Grange"is marked at a slower pace and sad soundind considering it is A Local Tragedy. And finally, the 6th movement is my favorite! "The Lost Lady Found" is a dance song and the melody, through out the piece, is with the saxes, euphoniums, bassoons, and clarinets I believe. At measure 82 1st trombones and euphoniums suddenly drop in and play this AWESOME, very smooth and quick part lasting for 11 measures. Towards the end of the mvt the low brass come in at ff and keep on till the end where it is marked ffff! I love this piece! Good luck to all who tries this piece!
