  • May 21, 2008 Best band piece ever written--a masterwork.

Lincolnshire Posy is a work of genius. I can't think of a single other work for band, by any composer, to rival it. It's absolutely brilliant. The level of invention, the musical rhetoric, the orchestrational finesse--all the details, as well as the overall effect, are absolutely incredible...

. It's a joy to play and a joy to listen to. Grainger knocked it so far out of the field with this one that he not only hit the winning home run, he won the world series! To me, this is one of the masterpieces of 20th Century music, in any genre. All serious musicians should know this work forwards and backwards. If you want to learn how to compose for winds, study this score. I'm a professional composer, with a MFA in composition from CalArts. I've studied with some of the best composers of the last 50 years. I use this score as reference material for my own works. Plus, it's simply a pleasure to hear such great music.

  • November 27, 2007 Condensed Score for Lincolnshire Posy

This condensed score worked well for analysis. However, some markings are missing from the full score version, and some individual parts are hard to follow throughout each movement.
