This book really teaches alot in a small amount of time. It teaches music theory and how to read music. There are not alot of practice exercises but you can probably practice elsewhere. I bought a course from Gibson Learn & Master and this book goes pretty much the same as...

the first part of Gibson course. And you get to learn some classic rock. You learn chords, the name of the strings, etc.
