Largo is the second movement from Dvořák’s Symphony No.9. The main melody is based on the popular folk tune "Going Home". I wrote this arrangement for saxophones in 2014; it is in the original key and is playable by SATB or AATB Saxophone quartet. Would Dvořák have approved of this adaptation of his music? It is pure speculation of course, but I would like to believe that as a composer who incorporated folk influences into his nationalistic style, and who was a brilliant orchestrator, he would have embraced this reimagining of one of his most popular melodies.
