Composed to commemorate the sesquicentennial of the State of Illinois, Dr. Whear again proves his mastery of the medium with this overture. Opening with short brass fanfares, moving to rhythmic ensemble playing, giving way to a short woodwind chorale-like passage, it builds to a rousing and comforting conclusion. A very accessible work for concert or contest.
