    Tarrytown, NY
    Difficulty Level:
  • April 28, 2014 Approach with Caution

A problematical piano-vocal score. For starters, it's an unsatisfactory mix of "clean" score - no added dynamics, not even in brackets - & unidentified editorial added notes in the "filling out" of the continuo part. Organization of information about the many textual variants is unsystematic, confusing & occasionally erroneous. Many verbal errors...

, f.i. "of" for "oft" (in the aria "Sweet Bird") and "two sisters Graces" for "two sister Graces." Major gaffe: confusing Samuel Johnson with Ben Jonson, and wrongly "correcting" John Milton's text accordingly. Use with great caution.
