"The More than Slow Waltz" is one way to translate this interesting Debussy work. The composer was apparently fascinated by the waltz form for many reasons, and this particular work represented a reaction to the wide-spread influence of the slow waltz in France's social gathering places. It is written in G-flat major.

This dreamy waltz with its wonderful harmonies ought to rank with Claire de Lune in popularity. It was a favorite of the late Bruce Montgomery, long-time director of the glee clubs at the University of Pennsylvania. From his summer home on the Maine coast, he would watch seagulls gracefully...

This gorgeous waltz is not for the neophyte pianist, unless he or she is extraordinarily gifted or musically sophisticated. The harmony is beautiful, with its liberal use of whole tone scales.
