  • April 27, 2011 a charming novelty

Not a very substantial piece (Boccherini didn't think it should be published), but a fun feature on a chamber program - a programmatic work for string quintet. The connection to the movie makes a nice popular culture reference. The edition is reliable, although the type is a little small and...

spacing a bit crunched in the second violin part. The cello part requires more than intermediate technical skill.

I looked everywhere for this piece, La Musica notturna di Madrid Op.30/6, and I finally found it here! It's a quintet for violins and cellos that I am still trying to learn to play for the violin part. At first I thought it was difficult since I...

am not advanced in playing the violin (I have been playing off-and-on for nine years, but have only had three years put together of training from a teacher); but since I had heard the song online and already sort of knew it from the movie "Master and Commander", it became easier to play. It is a fun song to play with all the different parts, and it is very original. I especially enjoy the part that involves pizzicato while making the violin sound like a guitar. I was definitely very satisfied with my purchase.

  • March 16, 2009 Great music

This was a present for my wife. She plays the Cello and after we saw the movie Master and Commander she wanted this music to play it. I really like how it sound and how Boccherini write his pieces.

  • March 05, 2009 Captain Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin love it

This is the piece from "Master & Commander", and its just wonderful. I bought this for some friends in order that they can play (being not a string- but a doublereed-player myself), so I can't really judge the difficulty. And they haven't come round to play it yet...

. But for being written in 1786, it's pretty avant-garde, not you typical baroque piece.
