SATB choir with optional children's choir and rhythm section [keyboard, acoustic guitar and percussion (triangle, wind chimes, shaker, conga)]
Arranged by Joel Raney. Spiritual, General Worship, Sacred. Octavo. 12 pages. Published by Hope Publishing Company (HP.C5495).

Item Number: HP.C5495

Scriptural Reference: Psalms 22:19, Psalms 31:2, Psalms 38:22, Psalms 40:13, Psalms 55:1, Psalms 69:18, Psalms 70:1, Psalms 141:1, Psalms 95:1, 1 John 5:14-15, Romans 8:26.

For mixed voices with optional children's choir, this Joel Raney setting begins with the simple statement, "someone's prayin', Lord, come by here." African rhythms take over with "someone's shoutin'" followed by a lush 4-part treatment of "someone's cryin'." Caribbean rhythms flavor the "someone's singin'" verse developing into an exciting gospel, hand-clapping high point before settling back to a final prayerful statement of "kum ba yah." The rhythm packet contains parts for: keyboard, acoustic guitar and percussion (triangle, wind chimes, shaker, conga).

There must be a thousand arrangemnts of 'Kum Ba Ya'. I own three, now. Always liked Joel Raney; so we're giving it a whirl. Sounded good when I played it and sang for myself.

This great song takes a familiar melody and runs the emotional gamut with it. From crying to dancing, this piece will touch everyone. I have performed it twice now and everyone has loved it. It is very musically written and the dynamics are crucial to it's success. My choir...

loved the rainstick, triangle, and djembe as well. Very fun!
